The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency Vikram Doraiswami, recently visited Guernsey on his first official visit to the island since being appointed to the post in September 2022.
During his time in Guernsey, the High Commissioner met with Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Rupert Pleasant.
Rupert said: “We discussed a number of mutual business opportunities including Guernsey's expertise in maritime and crew services, the Guernsey aircraft registry, and general aircraft insurance and financing.
“We also covered Guernsey's expertise in sustainable finance, access to Europe via the NPPR and the ability for the island to facilitate capital flows globally. We also discussed a possible understanding with GIFT City, India's new global financial and technology hub.”
During his visit, the High Commissioner also met the Chief Minister, Deputy Lyndon Trott, and the Presidents of the Committee for Economic Development and the Committee for Health and Social Care. Political meetings focused on the island's current priorities, including economy and trade, and financial services, including sustainable finance, as well as matters relating to health and social care.
His Excellency Vikram Doraiswami said: “I'm delighted to visit the beautiful island of Guernsey to strengthen ties between India and the Channel Islands. We have a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, which resonates deeply with our common vision for global collaboration.
“It has been helpful and enjoyable to explore mutual areas of interest, deepen cultural and economic exchanges, and celebrate the shared values that unite our communities. I look forward to continuing to engage with the people and leadership of Guernsey to further enrich this dynamic partnership.”
