Guernsey-based NED elected as Deputy President of Chartered Insurance Institute

Callum Beaton FCII, an insurance consultant and Non-Executive Director based in Guernsey, has been elected as Deputy President of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) for 2025.

The CII is the leading professional body in insurance, dedicated to building public trust in the insurance and financial planning professions.

Many insurance professionals working across the insurance sector, including in Guernsey, hold qualifications with the CII.

Callum’s insurance career commenced in 1977 in London where the early years of his career were spent broking, followed by underwriting at Lloyd’s.  At the beginning of 1986 he returned to Guernsey, to enter the captive insurance management sector. He spent almost twenty years in the sector, rising to become Chief Executive of a captive management company and Deputy Chief Executive of its parent group.

In 2004 Callum stepped aside from corporate activity and has since practised as an insurance consultant with a critical focus on captive and cell captive techniques. He has written and lectured extensively and presently holds a number of directorships of captive insurance companies.

Callum said he was ‘massively honoured and humbled in equal measure’ to have been elected.

At the AGM at the end of October, the CII appointed Nicola Stacey ACII, its current Deputy President, as President for 2025,

Chair of the Guernsey International Insurance Association Adele Gale said: “Callum has supported GIIA in achieving Chartered Insurance Institute accreditation for the Certificate and Diploma in Insurance Management and he has been dedicated to supporting the Insurance Institute in Guernsey throughout his career.

“We are delighted to see Callum’s dedication to the Profession recognised in his recent appointment as Deputy President of the CII, an incredible honour.  We are a small Island and yet our international insurance industry is globally impactful, and this is due to the experienced and skilled professionals working here on the Island.”
