Joanna Caen is a Counsel in the trusts and private wealth team at Carey Olsen in Guernsey. She advises families, individuals, trustees and other professionals serving high and ultra-high net worth families with asset planning, philanthropy, family company structures, dispute resolution and, increasingly, mental capacity issues. She has worked in New Zealand and Hong Kong before joining the Carey Olsen team in Guernsey. Previously, Joanna was Managing Director of Praxis's Hong Kong office, responsible for providing trust and corporate services to clients throughout Asia and beyond. Before that, she was a partner with Herbert Smith Freehills leading their Private Wealth team in China.  In 2021 and 2022 Joanna was Chair of the Hong Kong branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).  In 2024 she was elected as a member of the STEP Contentious Trusts and Estates Special Interest Group Steering Committee and of the Guernsey Branch Committee of STEP. She qualified in New Zealand in 2007 and Hong Kong in 2016.

Stephen is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of experience in the finance industry and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Although Stephen has primarily focused on fiduciary matters, he has also served as a board member for both listed and non-listed funds.

His extensive experience in the fiduciary industry includes in-depth knowledge of commercial property structures, wealth transfer between generations, and addressing the complex needs of wealthy families. Stephen has managed high-profile transactions in both the UK and Europe, developing a thorough understanding of related issues such as taxes, funding requirements, and the importance of clear and efficient communication with all parties involved.

In addition to handling commercial property structures, Stephen has increasingly focused on the affairs of the families and individuals behind these structures. His family office service has led to the development of deep, long-lasting relationships with multiple generations and their advisors, ensuring that both their immediate and future financial needs are secured and protected.

Outside of work, Stephen enjoys spending time with his family, watching various sports, and playing sports that involve a small ball, such as squash, golf, and cricket.

Mark’s tax career has taken him from Birmingham through Warsaw, Bucharest, Milton Keynes and London before joining BDO in Guernsey in 2012.

Mark advises individuals and companies on all aspects of Guernsey, UK and international tax, particularly issues related to cross-border investments and holdings, especially into the UK.  This includes working with Guernsey resident and UK resident non-domiciled private clients in respect of their non-UK interests.  He also advises corporates and investment funds, particularly private equity backed funds, captive insurers and managers and the real estate and hospitality industries.

Justine is a Client Adviser and Head of the Wealth Management team based in Guernsey. Prior to joining Rothschild & Co in 2021, Justine was Head of Private Banking for Kleinwort Hambros, Guernsey. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and holds the Private Client Investment  Advice qualification. Justine was awarded Private Banker of the Year (Channel Islands & Isle of Man) at the Citywealth International Financial Centre Awards for 2021 and is also ranked as a Top Recommended Private Client Adviser for HNW’s and UHNW’s in the 2022 and 2023 Spears Index for Best Wealth Managers. Married with two children, Justine enjoys long cliff walks with the family dog and running.
