John Ogier
Registrar Intellectual Property Deputy Company Registrar
John was born in 1957, his early childhood was spent in Guernsey. Educated at the Grammar school and Bath University where he graduated with a BSc (hons).
He joined MAFF working out of the Dorset Office in 1982. In 1984 he moved back to Guernsey to take up a position in the States of Guernsey as a business adviser for the horticulture industry. In 1999 he was appointed as economic and strategic adviser. In this role he carried out economic work for the Board of Industry, working closely with industry groups.
In 2000 he commenced work reviewing the Bailiwick of Guernsey’s Intellectual Property legislation. He took a Post-Graduate qualification in Intellectual Property Law in 2005/6 linked with the University of Bournemouth. The Bailiwick Intellectual Property Office opened on the 1st June 2006 when John was appointed Registrar.
From 2006 he also became the Project Director for establishing an on-line Company Registry. This work was carried out with Finance Sector Development and involved working closely with financial sector organisations, the Guernsey Bar and the existing Greffe Registry team.
John is married with three children, a little girl and two teenage boys. He enjoys gardening and keeps fit swimming, running and walking. He is active in church activities on the Island where he is a local preacher.
