Membership of the Association of Guernsey Banks is open to all Banks operating in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It provides the industry with a forum to debate issues as they arise and a channel of communication to Government and Regulatory Authorities when necessary. The Association which was established in 1988 comprises over 95% of all licensed Banks.
The Committee consists of 3 representatives from each of the membership groups which comprise the Retail Banks and International Banks. Each of these groups is then entitled to a place on the Council of the Guernsey International Business Association whose wider membership is drawn from all facets of the Finance Industry and associated professions operating within the Bailiwick.
The Association is concerned with the maintenance of high standards and has published a Code of Conduct for deposit advertisements. Whilst this is a non statutory Code, members are expected to abide by the spirit as well as the letter of the Code. A key element in the Association's work is that of providing a forum which can be used for consultation purposes by the Authorities when considering the introduction of legislation. It also acts as an interface with the Regulator, the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, in assisting them with their duty of maintaining high regulatory standards, contributing to the establishment of new procedures and regulations, as they become necessary.
The Association will be glad to supply information about any aspect of banking activity here in Guernsey on request.
